GERMANTOWN, Md.; (February 17, 2021) – DynCorp International (DI) has earned the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Diamond Award for Excellence in recognition of its commitment to aviation maintenance training, honoring three programs in 2020.

  • width=California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) program. This is the ninth Diamond award for the CAL FIRE program, where DI flies and maintains Grumman S-2T air tankers, C-130H training aircraft and OV-10A aircraft, and fully maintains and services UH-1H Super Huey and S-70i Blackhawk helicopters flown by CAL FIRE pilots.
  • U.S. Forest Service Firewatch program. This is the sixth consecutive FAA Diamond award for the Firewatch program. DI maintains and operates reconfigured Army AH-1/Bell 209 Cobra helicopters. These aircraft have been rebuilt, rewired, and equipped with advanced systems to improve operational efficiency and tactical decision-making. An infrared capability enables them to literally see through smoke so they can guide firefighters on the ground. Operating from Redding, Ca., the Firewatch teams are dispatched nationwide.
  • U.S. Air Force at Joint Base Andrews-Naval Air Facility Washington program. The DI team at JB Andrews has earned this prestigious award 19 years in a row. Through this program, DI provides services for Executive Airlift and Rotary Maintenance Wing including aircraft maintenance in support of aircraft assigned to the 316th Wing and 89th Airlift Wing.

width=“This award means that every DI maintenance technician has achieved at least 12 additional hours of FAA-approved maintenance training,” said Jeff Cavarra, CAL FIRE’s program director. “I am proud of our team’s dedication to safety and training in maintaining the largest wildland air fleet in the world.”

“We are pleased to be among DI’s Diamond Award recipients again for our sixth year in a row,” said Tamara Skjegstad, Firewatch program manager. “Our maintenance technicians deserve all the recognition for their hard work meeting these commitments.”

“Our maintenance technicians are committed to the highest standards of excellence,” commented Craig O’Neal, program director, Andrews Support Division. “It’s an honor to lead the Exec Airlift and Rotary Wing team who’ve earned this award for their nineteenth year!”

width=The FAA’s Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Award program is based on the commitment of maintenance technicians to improve safety by actively participating in initial and recurring training programs to further their technical knowledge. The Diamond Award is the highest corporate award, and the program includes both individual and corporate recognition.

The award recognizes completion by 100 percent of an organization’s eligible maintenance technicians of specialized, continuous training in aircraft systems, regulations and FAA rules over a 12-month period. In addition to the Diamond Award, which is presented to the company, each mechanic receives an Aviation Maintenance Technician award based on the number of training hours logged.
