Amentum Receives $29.8 Million Award to Provide Rocket Warhead Containment System Equipment and Testing

Amentum has received a new $29.8 award under its Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Prototype Chemical Munition Destruction Other Transaction Agreement.

Under the award, the company’s Non-Proliferation and Security Services Sector will provide the Program Executive Office (PEO) for Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (ACWA) with rocket warhead containment system equipment and conduct a first article test. Amentum will continue to provide continued site design and installation of a first-of-a-kind prototype Static Detonation Chamber 2000 system.

“Amentum is the leader in safe disposal of chemical weapons,” said Dr. Karl Spinnenweber, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Amentum’s Mission Readiness Group. “We are proud to continue to support PEO ACWA in their mission to make the world a safer place for all – free of chemical weapons.”

Throughout its history, Amentum has destroyed more than 28,000 tons of chemical agents, representing 90 percent of the U.S. stockpile. In addition, it has safely disposed of more than 2.7 million munitions, including 99.8 percent of all U.S. chemical weapons.

This award will augment ongoing chemical weapons destruction operations at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant in Richmond, Ky., which focuses on the safe and environmentally compliant disposal of nerve-agent rockets and projectiles. Work is scheduled to take place through November 2021.
