Amentum is shining a spotlight on the talented engineers who are helping us to create a secure and vibrant future.

What is your role at Amentum?

I lead a team of multi-disciplined engineers to modernize system and software architectures in support of our DoD customer.

Describe a typical workday at Amentum for you (Day in The Life):

I frequently interact with customers to explain intricate technical concepts and solutions. I collaborate with my team to design and implement system requirements, ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering products. Additionally, I oversee the administration of engineering processes and procedures, actively seeking opportunities to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness

What do you enjoy about working for Amentum and what do you find most rewarding?

Mentoring and fostering the professional growth of my engineering team members is the most rewarding aspect of my role. I derive great satisfaction from witnessing their progress and enhancing their engineering expertise. .

What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering, and how has it shaped your journey at Amentum?

My journey to becoming an engineer wasn’t a straight line. When I was a young adult, I wasn’t particularly interested in a career in engineering. The idea of a career glued to a computer screen did not appeal to me.  However, I had always been fortunate to possess a talent for logical thinking and problem solving, which allowed me to excel in mathematics. This led me to pursue and obtain a degree in mathematical engineering. I apprehensively began my professional career as a software developer, where I quickly fell in love with writing software. I discovered that writing software aligned well with my logical thinking and problem-solving strengths.  I found great satisfaction in creating something tangible that others could use to enhance their jobs. To this day, software I wrote is still in use supporting critical DoD space research and development missions.

After over fifteen years as a software developer, I had the opportunity to take my engineering skills to a new level and architect a cutting-edge enterprise system architecture from scratch. This involved assembling and leading a team of highly skilled, multi-disciplined engineers.  Together we collaboratively designed and implemented a solution that is actively being used to support the advancement of space technology.  The collaborative nature of this project, and the impact our work is still having, is extremely fulfilling.

I understand that many young adults are hesitant to pursue an engineering career for the same reasons I was.  However, I would strongly encourage them to think about the opportunity an engineering career provides them to be part of the creation of solutions that improve the lives of others and the substantial rewards that come with it.
