Employee Spotlight: Meet Alyson Gibson – Intelligence Community

Alyson G

Amentum is shining a spotlight on the dedicated individuals who serve in the intelligence community. They play a vital role in safeguarding our nation’s security and dedicate their careers to gathering, analyzing, interpreting information to provide critical insights at the highest levels of government. Using innovative technologies and methodologies with strong collaboration they stay ahead of evolving threats that could impact our security. We thank them for their service and appreciate their efforts to protect our freedom. Our next spotlight is on Alyson Gibson, Senior Security Manager, Intelligence, National Security.

What is your professional and personal background?

I have been married for 19 years and blessed with an amazing 14-year-old son. I have an AA in Business Administration and a BA in Homeland Security. The last 18 years of my professional career have been spent in the Security field. I started as a Security Monitor on an Intel program back in 2006 working my way into a Security Administrator position. In 2010, I started working for Amentum, when we won the program I was an incumbent. Amentum has always been an employee first company and gave me all the tools I needed to progress into a Contract Security Officer position and then eventually a Program Security Manager supporting programs with 400 plus employees. Two years ago, I was promoted to Senior Security Manager supporting several contracts in the Intelligence business line through onsite security management and oversight. I have spent my career supporting the same few customers with no regrets. Through my Senior Security Manager role, I have been able to provide oversight to a team supporting a different customer, which has provided growth as a Security professional.

What is your role at Amentum?

Currently, I am the Senior Security Manager, supporting several contracts in the Intelligence business line through onsite security management and oversight. I take pride and am privileged to be able to manage and mentor an awesome team of security professionals across the business. I also provide periodic Business Development support.

Describe a typical workday at Amentum for you (Day in The Life):

Is there a such thing as a typical workday? I provide direct support to the customer and program mission through security support. The role of Security on any program is supportive. We are there to enable our cleared and uncleared work force to understand their responsibilities as it pertains to having a clearance. We are there to assist the employees and ensure their information is reported appropriately to the customer. There is perpetual listening and guiding daily. Security education is the bedrock of a successful security program.  If an incident or infraction should happen, what matters is how we respond. The relationship I have created with my customer security counter parts has helped foster a strong and robust Security Education program on all the programs I support. Security education is a daily effort to ensure compliance and trust. I also spend time collaborating with senior level customers and program managers on the development of new processes and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Finally, I help to grow and mentor the security officers who report to me. We work together to investigate and resolve security concerns. This by far is the most rewarding part of my job!

What do you enjoy about working for Amentum and what do you find most rewarding about supporting the Intelligence Community?

The most important areas of focus for me are people and mission. The customer’s and the company’s mission are paramount. Being able to support even a small piece of the customers mission makes it all worth it. When the customer is successful, Amentum is successful. Without the wonderful and talented employees who work for Amentum, we would not be able to accomplish anything. At the end of the day, the people who work for Amentum is what I enjoy most. I get to interact with all levels of the business line, and different departments/employees in the organization (Recruiting, Operations, Trade craft employees, etc.). It’s a pleasure to experience the diversity of all the individuals and departments on the programs I support. I love being able to help regardless of the question/concern. Having the opportunity to find solutions and put those solutions into action is my passion, and in my opinion, what really helps people.
