At Amentum, we celebrate our people, our cultures, and we recognize the value of diversity and inclusion. For February, we’ll reflect on what Black History Month means to all of us while shining a light on one employee at a time. Amentum’s next spotlight is on Ebony King, Social Media and Content Manager, Corporate.
How did you come to join Amentum?
I joined the team in 2022 through a job board.
What is your professional and personal background?
In 2020, I received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration from Georgia Southern University. After moving from Georgia to Virginia, I began my career as a Social Media Manager for online boutiques and then transitioned into Digital and Email Marketing, working in the legal and non-profit industries. I then joined Amentum and pivoted into the Government Contracting industry.
Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.
Being a Social Media and Content Manager allows me to tell the stories of all of the amazing people at Amentum. Whether it’s through announcing contract wins that our employees worked so hard on or highlighting our employees’ accomplishments. I am proud that I get to amplify the unique voices of our workforce whether it be highlighting individuals or the company as a whole.
What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?
My proudest career moment thus far would have to be cross-collaborating with the many diverse groups at Amentum. Together we have been able to produce new initiatives that showcase our employees and the amazing work that they do. I enjoy receiving positive feedback and knowing I’m making an impact.
What do you enjoy about working for Amentum?
Being at Amentum, I’m allowed to express my creativity and present my authentic self. I truly appreciate having such a supportive team of individuals who always let me know that my voice is being heard. It would be easy to feel small in a company comprised of over 40,000 employees, but at Amentum I always know that I matter, and I’m encouraged to be who I am, inspire, learn, and elevate.
What are you passionate about?
I’m most passionate about family. Growing up in a small town in Georgia, it was always instilled in me the importance of family and community, whether it’s the one you’re born into or create. Navigating adulthood has only highlighted this for me. It’s always important to have someone that supports you, encourages you, and that you can rely on. I try to make sure I relay that same feeling through my professional and personal life.
What’s your career advice?
My career advice is to do it. Even if you’re unsure, do it scared. You never know what amazing career opportunities are on the other side of just walking through that door.
What does safety mean to you or do you have a favorite safety tip?
Safety to me means making sure you’re always creating a safe environment for yourself and others.
What’s the best invention in the world and why?
Not to be bias, but the best invention in the world is the internet and social media of course! I couldn’t imagine a world without TikTok! We are so fortunate to live in an era where information is so easily and quickly accessible to most people. Of course, there are downsides as is with all progression but I’m grateful for where we are as a society because of it.
Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?
If I could share anything else, it would be to encourage newer employees who are just starting out to put yourself out there and don’t be afraid to ask questions because you are surrounded by a group of people that really care about your success.
Considering this monthly observance, tell us more about yourself. Please address one or more of the following questions:
Favorite film?
My favorite films are the first three Transformers.
Favorite musician?
My favorite musician is Beyonce.
