Amentum is shining a spotlight on the dedicated individuals who serve on the Integrated Facility Management (IFM) Team. Our first spotlight is on Irene Sanders, Project Manager, Critical Missions.

How did you come to join Amentum?

Amentum came highly recommended by someone I trust, who had been an employee of theirs for years prior to my application. They were always speaking so highly of everyone they worked with and the positive, professional culture of the company; so when I saw an opportunity to join the team, I took it!

What is your professional and personal background?

Before joining Amentum I worked as an assistant project manager for a commercial roofing contractor. Prior to my roofing job, I was a student at the University of Colorado Denver, where I graduated with a bachelor’s in communications and minor in business. I’m also a big reader and love books. I often spend my Saturdays working at local bookstore and hanging out with my friends and family.

Describe the work you do and how you think it makes a positive impact.

I am a project manager, so I get the great opportunity to work at all different sites and on many different projects. Whether I’m helping remediate some mold on a wall or introducing robots to the workspace, I love being able to start and see a project through to the very end. I think my positive impact comes from being able to communicate and work together with a lot of different people with a wide variety of expertise. I try to listen and be as helpful as possible to get everyone the things they need to help me complete the project, and together we can be collaborative and positively work together to get things done.

What’s the most unique job or project you ever did / participated on?

I think working on the Innovations & Transformative team, and in particular with the cleaning robots has been the most unique project I’ve worked on. I’m not very knowledgeable about tech and robotics, so it has been really cool learning how to read specs, speak with different robotics teams, and learn about the different technologies that are being developed.

What are some of your accomplishments and/or what has been your proudest career moment?

My proudest career moment hasn’t been the completion of a complex project or can be defined by a singular moment. By nature, I am a pretty shy person and I struggle with public speaking and/or asking questions. My proudest career moment(s) are every time I am able to present or run a meeting and strongly advocate for the needs of the team I am working with.

What do you enjoy about working for Amentum / Intel Program?

The people! Everyone has been incredibly kind, helpful, and have always given me the guidance to push me in the right direction. I also enjoy the challenge and fun of working with different buildings, and with so many people all across the world!

What are you passionate about?

In my career, I am passionate about good communication, teamwork, and trust. I always want to be open and welcoming to all who need my help, and I love working together with people to problem solve together.

What’s your career advice?

Trust your team, and don’t be afraid to ask questions!

What does safety mean to you, or do you have a favorite safety tip?

Safety means being considerate and aware of your surroundings, yourself, and the people around you. It means always checking twice, never assuming, and making sure you move in ways that will always get you back home to the people you love.

Anything else you would like to share from a personal or professional perspective?

I’m extremely grateful for all the things I’ve learned so far. Amentum has helped me push myself and grow my confidence, and I can’t wait to work more with the team.
