Amentum’s Testing Advice Trialing Arrangement Systems Engineering team helped the British Army to convert the MAN Support Vehicle, Jackal 2 and Foxhound to hybrid drive, reducing the vehicles’ carbon footprint and providing additional power sources during operational deployment.

Amentum led the Technology Demonstrator 6 Hybrid Electric Drive project, working with vehicle manufacturers Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land , Supacat and General Dynamics and with the UTAC Millbrook proving ground facility near Milton Keynes. The vehicles have kept their existing diesel engines, suspension, armor, controls and payload volume, while the gearbox and drivetrain were replaced with a generator, batteries, battery management system, power electronics and electric motors.

Amentum played a central role in a UK Ministry of Defence exercise designed to break new ground in networking of drones and robotic systems.

Project Acheron, an exercise in Devon, England, which simulated an unopposed shore landing by Royal Marines Commandos, tested new integrated command, control, communications, and network architectures for use by all the armed services.

We supplied an eight-wheeled autonomous vehicle, smaller tracked ground vehicles, aerial drones, as well as a suite of connected microphone arrays, and we built integrated network and network architecture, feeds from all assets could be viewed on one screen, enabling faster decision making and full situation awareness of deployed platforms.
